Slip Cover

Hi all!! I hope you had a great week wherever you may have been. I feel like it flew by!! Seriously I am not sure where my days are going. I have been busy getting some projects accomplished, which always takes up a lot of time, but I enjoy doing them. Last week I showed you the kitchen set I made for my daughter and this week I am going to show you a little share that I updated for her. Eventually I will share with you the entire updated playroom where all these pieces are going to come together. :) I hope to be getting that all finished sometimes soon.

So this is my first time making a slipcover for anything. It was the perfect piece to start on because it was little and I only needed a couple yards of fabric, which isn't too much if I messed up. I was so happy with the outcome and I think I will keep it for a while. Don't look to close though if you sew...you might find a few imperfections. For my first time though I was happy that it fit over the chair. :)

For the tutorially all I can say is that I took the two yards of fabric and started to cut and piece it all over the chair. This was really not an exact science...some might have done differently but this worked for me. She loves it and I am happy to cover up the stained, old chair from before. Here are the pictures. I hope you have a lovely weekend!!

Sparkle for Valentine's Day

Good Afternoon.  It's a Wednesday afternoon and I'm just blogging away and looking out the window on this very cold day here in Michigan.  I feel like I'm hibernating just like the bears in the forest.  I really don't even want to go out and do errands or even shop when it's soooooo cold out there.   The whole country seems to be having a lot of hard cold weather and there is no place to go and get some warmth.    I am making myself productive because even with the cold, the sun is shining and I get inspired to do some projecting and when it does get nice I will be running around enjoying the warmth that I know will come.  Spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Our newest little additions, Max and Elsa are growing and getting bigger, they don't stay little for very long.  Jackie is so busy but loving them like crazy and Oliver (her oldest) just loves being around them and pulling off their booties and  tickling their feet.  Well on to my latest little project that was really fun to do and it was something to make for Valentines Day.  Here is the before picture and actually I had to find another old pail to take a picture because I forgot to take the before picture:

I really like these old galvanized pails.  One can do so much with them and decorate with them or even have them in photo shoots.  I drew the large heart and than painted the inside of it with a pretty pink acrylic paint.
When the paint was dry I rubbed Elmer's glue all over the paint and sprinkled pink glitter all over the heart.

When that dried, I decided to add some Xmas beads that I had found at Target that were close in color and glued that all around the heart and inside the grooves on the pail for a little added sparkle. One should never put everything away after the holidays because I found my sweet pink beads.
I think the pail came out cute and reminds one of Valentine's Day.  I really like it sitting on this old column that I bought at a garage sale this Fall.
and what about the plant inside.  Looks fun, huh?

So, what do you think?  Does it look like something for Valentine's Day and still a little shabby? Until next time, Dianne........

Kitchen Set

Hello!! First and foremost it's Friday!! That should be enough to put a smile on your face...at least for those who do not work on the weekends. I always get a little excited for Friday, probably always will even though I don't leave my house to go to work. Anyhow we recently celebrated my little girl turning two years old!! I can't believe it. I figured it was time for her to get a little kitchen set. I looked around and found some cute ones but I thought it would be fun to try to make one for her myself. I had a lot of help from my husband, and the two of us put our minds together and this is what we came up with. I also got a lot of ideas from pinterest. I just adore that site. :)

We started with these two end tables. He thought we needed just one but I had envisioned something else, so we bought two of them. They were PERFECT for this project because they had sides that both went down for the sink. I couldn't pass them by. They were a little beat up but nothing a little primer and paint couldn't fix up. I found this light blue color as an "oops" paint and I thought it would be just right for this project.

Here is the finished product.

As you can see I wasn't thrilled with the knobs so I decided to buy new ones to make this piece look a little bit more girly. I had the pink ones for the drawers but I bought a couple of these crystal ones for the cupboard. I just thought they would look nicer than to just paint the old ones.

My husband made the door for me. I think he kind of enjoyed working on this project as well. He got a few new tools out of the deal as well. :) He made the door out of plywood. We put Plexiglas for the window and I sprayed the outside with silver metallic paint. We bought new pulls to make it look more realistic and he used the old hinges, just put them on the bottom to make it open the way a real stove would.

On the inside he built side pieces so that we could slide a cooling rack in between them for a shelf in the oven. It worked out perfectly and she LOVES to put cookie sheets in it...just the way her Mom does.

For the top of the oven my husband found some old burners when he was up north hunting this Fall in an old camper that his parent's own. They were rusty and looked kind of rough but all it took was some trusty black spray paint to get them looking like new. We then took the knobs that were on the cupboard doors and sprayed them black as well. They turn just like knobs on a stove would.

On the other side we put an old faucet that he found as well (like I said I think he enjoyed this little project as much as I did, or else he didn't want to make it super expensive) when he was hunting this fall. It's not brand new but it does the trick. She loves to fill her containers with water. :)

We put knobs and pulls on the side to hold her towels and oven mitts, as well as some cleaning supplies that we picked up from the dollar store. It's not just all about cooking she needs to learn how to clean as well..right? :)

Then of course in the cupboard you need all the necessary utensils, cups, plates, and pots and pans to get the job done. She just loves it and I hope she will for many years.

This was such a fun project. I hope you enjoyed looking at it as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you. I hope you all have a great weekend!!

A Little Added Bling

Good evening fellow bloggers.  It has been a while since I have blogged and Monday is not my normal day of blogging.  My daughter Jackie usually blogs on Mondays but she has been a little busy with her twins.  They are growing like crazy and I don't think the Mom knows what day it is.  They are so precious....Anyways, I'm going to tell you about a little project that I did.  I had these old bottles that I found at a garage sale and I really liked the shape of them.  They had corks in the top of the bottles and one was a little foggy in the inside.  I forgot to take the before picture but I really didn't change the outside that much.  Here are the bottles:

The shapes of the bottles are cute.  I added a little bit of bling to them by adding some jewelry pieces that were broken and they seem to fit the size of the bottles just right.
Actually the medallions hanging on the front of the bottles are actually old earrings.  I wrapped an old chain around the top of this bottle.
I added an old necklace around the top of this bottle
and around this bottle I added some of the broken pieces of the necklace around the top and topped that with a piece of old tatted lace.
I glued on all the pieces of jewelry on with E-6000 glue.  Works great and dries clear.
At the top, on the top of the old corks I added a rhinestone sequin.  Just a little bit more bling.
Here are my old bottles and I think they are really fun looking.
So, what do you think?  Better or worse?  Until next time, Dianne.......

My Babies

Good evening!!  It's been awhile since I've posted.....We recently received two precious Christmas gifts!!  Our blessings were delivered on December 9, 2013.  They have kept us quite busy....and equally provided us with so much joy!  So....my lack of posting is a result of trying to catch a few shut eyes in between feeding schedules:)

I hope you are well:)  I wanted to share a picture with you....Have a great evening!!

Sweater Leggings

Hello!! All I can say is where has the time gone?  I apologize if you have been checking out our blog and we haven't had any new ideas to share with you. I think Christmas time slowed us all down and we are all trying to get back into the swing of things.

Anyhow enough about that. I hope you all have had a great start to your year. It has been an awesome start around here. Put all the Christmas stuff away and trying to put my house back together. Along with trying to put my house back together means organizing and making a few trips to donate some things. I always go through my clothes and take out a few things that I think I can transform into something cute for my daughter. I found this old gray sweater that after a few washes no longer looks very nice. So I thought instead of getting rid of it I was going to try to transform it into something warm and cozy for her. I thought of cute little sweater leggings. So I took a pair of her leggings for a pattern and the sweater and started to cut them out. I used the original bottom of the sweater for the hem on the leggings. It worked out best I think. They look better then myself trying to hem the bottom, plus it took WAY less time. So I will try to explain how I did these pants as I show you the pictures.

This is the before picture of the sweater along with the little pants that I used as the pattern.

I cut the leggings along the seams on both sides of the sweater so I only had to sew along the seams on the inside of the pants instead of along the outside as well. I also line the pants up with the bottom hem of the sweater, as I stated above, so that I had a nice finished hem on the pants. Here is the partially finished product below. This is without the top of the pants finished. I didn't know if I should do elastic or not.

Here is a close-up of the bottom of the leggings.

So I decided not to do elastic at the top and make it more of a yoga top pant with the top flap folding down. (hopefully that makes sense to you). I took the sides of the original sweater and cut it out to make the top waistband. I just sewed it onto the top wrong sides together and then flipped it over to make the top band. I figured much more comfortable on her little belly then elastic and since this sweater was a little bit airy she was going to have to wear pants under it anyhow.

Here are the finished tops and the finished pants. I am super happy with the outcome!!

Then here they are on my little model. I just LOVE how they look on her chubby little legs. She hasn't fought me about wearing them so they must be cozy. :) She is already getting picky about what she wears and she is ALMOST 2!! She is WAY  to young to be deciding what to wear. Here she is putting her little slippers on because this is her favorite game to play...put them on and take them off.

Have a great day!!!
